WHAT IS ROCKET VINYASA YOGA?

Rocket was created in San Francisco by the late Larry Schultz, who was a disciple of Sri Pattabi Jois, the founder of Ashtanga yoga. He was known as 'The bad boy of Ashtanga'.

Larry’s vision was to make Ashtanga yoga more accessible to the western practitioner.

Rocket differs from its root, Ashtanga Yoga, in that students can modify and make their interpretation of the traditional asana. If they get stuck with a pose, they can skip it or find easier ways to practice instead of rigidly sticking to a pattern. It is perhaps a less rigid and more creative way of looking at the Ashtanga method without ever losing sight of the traditional heritage.

The Rocket offers a whole system of yoga routines that train the whole body in a wholistic and dynamic way.

Rocket has 3 set sequences, Rocket 1 based on Ashtanga primary series, Rocket 2  based on Ashtanga intermediate series and Rocket 3 combining Rocket 1 and 2 sequences.

Although the Rocket is structured in series, each class is not necessarily the same as the previous one. The practice can be traditional, following the set sequence or creative throughout variations.

The structured sequence cultivates strength, flexibility, and focus, while maintaining the evenness of breath, making the practice moving meditation.

The Rocket incorporates the same core principles of the ancient Ashtanga practice: observing of the breath, incorporating of energy locks, and focusing the the gaze...classically stated as breath, bandhas, and drishti. It also uses the same postures as classical Ashtanga, the difference is the arrangement of the postures and the pace of the practice.

“The Rocket has a very fast tempo, so it works on the cardiovascular system and gives you a sense of stamina and endurance...its non stop movement from the beginning to the end.”

Moving with awareness from your center helps to prevent injury, and allows for a more light, fluid movement.

''Each time I am practicing Rocket, I feel one step closer with my Inner Divine.''

Come and practice..
