look• observe • SUPPORT

look

Learn to observe before making contact — movement, breath, stability, effort, and individual differences.

observe

Develop sensitivity through your hands and learn to recognize resistance, movement, and stability.

SUPPORT

Use touch intentionally to guide, stabilize, communicate, and create space for the student to explore.

WHY HANDS-ON?

Hands-on assisting can be a simple and powerful way to support a student.

A thoughtful touch can help someone feel more grounded, find direction, create space, or become more aware of their body and movement.

It is not about changing the student or making a pose look “better.”

It is about being present, paying attention, and offering support when it is truly needed.

Touch also asks us to be mindful. It requires awareness, sensitivity, clear communication, and respect for each student's boundaries.

In this training, we will explore how to make hands-on assisting feel more natural, confident, and intentional — while always respecting the individual in front of you.

During the training, we will explore:

  • When to assist — and when not to

  • How to observe before touching

  • Hand placement, pressure, direction, and timing

  • Using touch as a way to communicate

  • Supporting without forcing

  • Adapting assists to different bodies

  • Building confidence and presence as a teacher

  • Consent, boundaries, and respectful communication

WHAT WE WILL EXPLORE

THE FOUNDATIONS

Understanding the intention behind an assist and moving beyond the idea of simply “correcting” a pose.

OBSERVATION

Learning to pause, look, listen, and understand before making contact.

THE ART OF TOUCH

Exploring hand placement, pressure, direction, timing, and quality of touch.

CONSENT & BOUNDARIES

Creating a culture of consent and learning how to communicate clearly before and during physical contact.

HANDS-ON PRACTICE

Practical assists across a variety of postures, including:

Standing poses • Forward folds • Twists • Hip openers • Backbends • Seated poses • Arm balances • Inversions • Restorative poses

The goal is not to memorize adjustments.

It is to understand the intention behind them and learn how to adapt your approach to each student.

YOUR PROFESSIONAL MANUAL

Every participant receives a Professional Hands-On Assists Manual to support their learning during and after the training.

It includes:

  • Teaching principles

  • Practical verbal cues

  • Step-by-step assisting techniques

  • Visual guidance for hand placement and positioning

  • Consent & safety guidelines

  • Key teaching points

A practical resource to return to long after the 20 hours are complete.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

This training is for:

  • Certified yoga teachers who want to develop their hands-on skills

  • Teachers who want to feel more confident with touch

  • Teachers looking for a more mindful approach to adjustments

  • Experienced teachers wanting to refine observation and communication

  • Yoga practitioners interested in exploring the relationship between movement, touch, and awareness

WHAT YOU WILL TAKE AWAY

After 20 hours, you will have:

  • Practical hands-on assisting skills

  • A stronger ability to observe before touching

  • Greater confidence with touch and communication

  • A deeper understanding of consent and boundaries

  • Practical tools you can bring into your teaching

  • A Professional Hands-On Assists Manual

And, most importantly, a new perspective on the relationship between teacher, student, body, and touch.

BEFORE YOU TOUCH

Take a moment.
Look.
Listen.
Feel.
Ask.
Then decide.

Because the most meaningful assist is not always the one that takes a student deeper.

Sometimes it is the one that helps them feel more present, more aware, and more connected to themselves.
